Heineken 0.0 Tasting notes
Refreshingly dry. Meanwhile fruity notes and a soft malty body set it apart from the the alcoholic version. A short after-taste.
Best served ice-cold, straight from the bottle!
Heineken 0.0 Lager 0.0% is ‘open to all’. It’s open to all people, moments and drinking occasions, which might call for a beer but not for alcohol.
Heineken’s global craft and brew master Willem van Waesberghe created this great tasting alcohol free beer. He says: ‘Removing alcohol from regular 5% Heineken® would have been easy, but it wouldn’t deliver the best tasting non-alcoholic beer. Heineken® 0.0 is brewed from scratch.’
So, years were spent exploring, brewing, and tasting before Willem and his team finally created a perfectly balanced recipe.
Heineken 0.0 Lager 0.0% is twice brewed and fermented with Heineken’s unique A-yeast. The fruity flavour and slight malty notes are achieved with gentle alcohol removal and skilled blending.
So, how did Heineken come about?
Well, it’s thanks to Anna Gertruida van der Paauwa’s investment in an Amsterdam brewery. She bought De Hooiberg – The Haystack – for her son, Gerard Adriaan Heineken, on 15 February 1864. Thanks Anna! Then, in 1873, Gerard hired a ‘Dr. Elion’ (his first name has been lost to history). Dr. Elion had renowned microbiologist Louis Pasteur as a teacher. He used this experience to develop the Heineken A-Yeast. It is still in use today.
Hence, The Heineken Brewery Company was established, and the first Heineken brand beer was brewed.
