Tasting notes

Spier - Chenin Blanc Tasting Notes:

The Spier Chenin Blanc, with its modest 5.5% alcohol content, is an exquisitely refreshing wine that embodies the varietal's characteristic vibrancy and versatility.

  1. Appearance: The wine presents a beautiful, bright yellow hue that sparkles in the light, exuding an invitingly sunny and lively aspect.
  2. Aroma: On the nose, this Chenin Blanc bursts with enticing aromas of ripe orchard fruits such as apple and pear, coupled with tropical hints of pineapple and subtle undertones of honeysuckle.
  3. Taste: On the palate, this Chenin Blanc expresses a harmonious blend of fruit-forward flavours balanced by a zesty acidity. The delightful taste of ripe apples and juicy pears intermingles with tropical notes, while a gentle minerality lends complexity.
  4. Finish: The wine concludes with a refreshingly crisp and satisfying finish, leaving a hint of lingering fruitiness that invites you to take another sip.

Overall, the Spier Chenin Blanc provides a flavourful, balanced, and approachable wine experience that showcases the charming qualities of the Chenin Blanc varietal.

Food Pairings

The Spier Chenin Blanc's flavourful profile and crisp acidity make it an excellent partner to a wide array of dishes. Here are some food pairing suggestions to enhance your tasting experience:

  1. Seafood: The wine's fruit-forward character and refreshing acidity perfectly complement seafood dishes, particularly white fish, shellfish, and sushi.
  2. Poultry and Light Meats: Grilled chicken, turkey, or pork tenderloin make excellent partners to this Chenin Blanc's balanced flavour profile.
  3. Vegetarian Dishes: Think grilled vegetables, salads, or pasta with a creamy sauce. The wine's acidity will cut through the creaminess, and its fruitiness will complement the veggies.
  4. Mild Cheeses: Soft, mild cheeses like brie or camembert, as well as goat cheese, pair beautifully with this wine, as they allow its complex fruit and floral notes to shine.

With these pairing ideas, you can create a harmonious food and wine experience that highlights the delightful characteristics of the Spier Chenin Blanc.

Serving Suggestions

For an optimal tasting experience with the Spier Chenin Blanc, here are some serving suggestions:

  1. Temperature: Chenin Blanc shines best when served chilled, typically between 7-10°C. This helps to highlight its crisp, refreshing characteristics.
  2. Glassware: A medium-sized white wine glass would be ideal. The narrower opening of this type of glass allows the wine's aromas to concentrate at the top of the glass, enhancing your sensory experience.
  3. Decanting: While not necessary for a young Chenin Blanc like this, you may choose to decant the wine to ensure it's free of any potential sediment and to let it breathe before serving.
  4. Enjoy Responsibly: Sip and savor the wine, appreciating its flavours and the way it interacts with your food. Remember, the key to wine enjoyment is moderation.

With these suggestions in mind, you can elevate your Spier Chenin Blanc experience, taking full advantage of its vibrant flavours and enticing aroma.

About Spier

"The Gentle" is an innovative alcohol brand founded by Moritz Zyrewitz and Stefan Canditt, borne out of a shared love for wine and a vision for creating enjoyable, less-alcoholic beverages. Moritz Zyrewitz, the founder and idea generator for The Gentle wine GmbH, brings years of expertise in the field of de-alcoholised wines, ensuring each product is meticulously crafted to his envisioned taste. Stefan Canditt, the co-founder, brings robust operational and purchasing experience, contributing to a seamless and structured business process.

The genesis of The Gentle is rooted in an all-too-common experience – a pounding headache after an evening of over-indulgence. With the intention to create a delightful, guilt-free drinking experience without the usual aftermath, Moritz and Stefan embarked on their journey to formulate a wine with the full taste but only half the alcohol content. Their solution was a clever reinterpretation of a time-honoured winemaking technique known as cuvéeing. By blending traditional wine with gently de-alcoholised wine, they succeeded in creating a range of beverages with just 6% alcohol - full of flavour but lighter on the head.

In this journey, they found invaluable support and synergy in the Wasem family winery. The three Wasem brothers - Julius, Philipp, and Gerhard - representing the fourth generation of this family of passionate vintners, bring an unparalleled depth of knowledge and tradition to this collaboration. Their winery not only offers exquisite wines but also extends to an elegantly connected hotel and a culinary experience focused on fine, regional food.

"The Gentle", with its innovative approach to winemaking, and the Wasem family, with their generational expertise and passion for wine, together embody a fusion of tradition and modernity. The result is a range of beautifully crafted, half-alcohol wines that deliver on taste, enjoyment, and sophistication without compromise. Their shared commitment to continually experimenting and enhancing their offerings reflects the spirit of curiosity and progress that defines The Gentle. This pursuit of excellence in every bottle is what makes The Gentle an exceptional choice for those who seek full enjoyment with mindful drinking.
