Mark and Mike realised they wanted to cut back on drinking but found the available options lacking. The beers were too thin, and the mocktails were overly sweet and sticky. They envisioned something better— a drink that was not only more satisfying but also full of flavour.
How do you approach crafting flavours in your drinks, and what makes your product unique?
"Using the only finest natural ingredients, we designed our beverages to have high intensity and to be super flavourful. All of our range has been built from the bottom up, putting together the key natural ingredients to deliver our profiles."
What are the biggest challenges you face in producing a high-quality low/no alcohol product?
"During our development phase, we we spent hundreds of hours crafting and trying to deliver the premium taste profiles. Designing and developing alcohol free drinks is not easy, as alcohol delivers so many attributes in taste from heat to cooling, to body and also helping other ingredients to remain in balance. Aside from development we had some major challenges around sourcing of our glass bottles due to the conflict in the Ukraine which is a large producer of glass bottles. But we overcome this and now have plenty of bottles and everything we need in place to keep growing."
How do you envision the future of low and no? Are there any trends you're excited about?
"From our perspective, the future of low and no is very bright, if you like at on-trade 1 in 4 visits to a pub or restaurant is alcohol free. We suspect that this is now more 1 in 3 visits. Also, more and more venue's are realising that it is super important to have a good solid broad range of alcohol free drinks from beers, ciders, through to spirits, and cocktails.
From some of our major launches in restaurants groups we have seen incredible rates of sale. For example, our Citizen Spritz Passionfruit launched in a well known restaurant group both on its own with soda water and into a Tropical Mocktail. Both drinks outsold everything on the menu with exception of two well known alcohol brands. So venues really need to focus on their alcohol free offering because the consumer landscape is changing.
We believe that moderation will be the biggest and most sustainable trend whereby consumers will look to mix up alcohol free drinks during evening and on specifc days in the week."
What is one thing you wish more people knew about your product or the low/no alcohol industry in general?
"Just how great it tastes and that there are lots of very good alcohol free brands in the market trying to give the consumer lots of choice."

"Its taste, our range is all about delivering amazing taste. At Citizen Spritz, we pride ourselves on being super tasty, easy to use and excellent value for money. Our range of drinks are great on their own just one shot with soda water but also they make great additions to cocktails."
