About Old Speckled Hen
Once upon a time in the picturesque market town of Abingdon, Oxfordshire, the Old Speckled Hen beer brand was brought to life. Its origin story dates back to 1979 when it was first brewed by Morland Brewery to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the MG car factory in Abingdon. The name "Old Speckled Hen" pays tribute to a unique MG car with a paint-speckled finish, affectionately known as the "Owld Speckled 'Un."
Over time, the beer gained a reputation for its distinctive character and rich, malty flavours that quickly made it a beloved choice among beer enthusiasts. As the brand grew, it became synonymous with quality and tradition, embodying the essence of classic British brewing.
In 2000, Morland Brewery was acquired by Greene King, and the production of Old Speckled Hen was moved to Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk. Greene King has upheld the brand's commitment to excellence, ensuring that Old Speckled Hen remains a favourite for those who appreciate a well-crafted ale with a storied past.
Today, Old Speckled Hen continues to charm drinkers with its unique blend of flavours, reminiscent of the warmth and camaraderie of a classic British pub. The brand has also expanded its range to include a non-alcoholic version, allowing even more people to enjoy the taste of this iconic beer.
Raise a glass to Old Speckled Hen, a true testament to British brewing heritage, and toast to the story behind this cherished beer.
